The Powers of Journaling…
.
Hellooo!! I’m here today to chat journaling with you.
.
Journaling is a really powerful tool. It doesn’t cost much, just pen and paper will get you started and everyone can do it. It’s a way to get your thoughts, dreams, goals, upsets, wins…everything down on paper.
.
You don’t need to share it with anyone, it can stay completely private. A bit like when you were little and you have those diaries with the mini lock and keys. Hands up if you had one too!
.
I’ve taught scrapbooking and creative classes for many many years now and the journaling part is often the stumbling block for most. I think for many, it’s over thought. Rather than just scribbling down what comes in to your head, you stop, think and that’s when that block happens. So number one tip….just go with it. If it makes it easier, get your journaling down on a scrap piece of paper first and then you can add it to your journal or your scrapbook page. Sometimes that feeling of pressure and having to have it perfect can also impact on how you write.
.
Once you start telling yourself though that it’s for your eyes only and that it is ‘just’ paper and you practise more. Like anything it gets easier. Another tip is to go with the hidden journaling option. I do that a lot. Especially if it’s personal.
.
My calendar pages are a great example. I include one in each month’s kit. Lately, since I’ve been documenting ‘My 2020 Story’, I’ve been resizing and printing off as an A6. I attach them along the one side in my journal with tape so that I can write the more personal stuff on the back and jot down the factual stuff on the front. This is working really well for me.
.
.
Tags are another favourite way of mine. Above, I’ve stuck in a little cello bag from the June kit and covered tags. The journaling is on the back. I can add more to this too if I want later on.
.
Sticking envelopes into your journals is also a really good way to hide your journaling and it can look so pretty too.
Attach the envelope down the one side with washi (see on the photo) and you can flip it and decorate the reverse too.
.
