‘Squirrel Friend’ by Emma Kate
Hey Lollipop friends, I’m excited to share the first of two 12×12 layouts with you using the forest friends kit. This kit was absolutely perfect for documenting our new squirrel friends that have taken to burying their nuts in our garden.
I began my layout with some mixed media, a combination of paste through a leaf stencil & various green ink sprays, don’t forget to prep your cardstock with gesso first. I then fussy cut the collage sheet that Daisy from ‘My Green Cow’ painted as part of this month’s collaboration.
I then arranged all of these elements around my photo, I love how the fox peers from behind the photo & the little squirrel is carrying his acorn to hide in the bush. Furthermore, I created a little embellishment cluster in the top right hand corner to draw the eye across the page.
Next I used the ‘Friend’ large word ephemera piece along with some red alpha stickers from my own stash to add my title, & just below that I wrote my journalling. Amongst my mixed media I added a sprinkling of the adhesive pearls, they catch the light beautifully!
To finish I mounted my page onto green patterned cardstock & machine stitched in red thread to mirror the colours within my layout. Do you have a forest friend? What creatures did you see on your last walk woodland walk? I’m sure you all have a story to tell!
Oooooh I love this, I just love a bit of mixed media on a layout!!! It’s so gorgeous and how lucky are you to have these lovely squirrel friends!!!
Aww thanks so much Claire. Yes it is fun having them around, my little girl loves them, funny enough I’ve watched Magpies & Jays bury nuts in the ground too, didn’t even know birds did that!
