Spring Mini Book with Lorraine
.
With so many gorgeous patterns, colours and cute items in the Smile It’s Spring kit here, I knew straight away that I would be creating a mini book ready to document the start of Spring and hopefully a family Easter egg hunt in the garden. I added minimal materials to the kit to create this mini book, 1 sheet each of yellow and white cardstock, some Washi tape from a previous kit and an A4 sheet of acetate. I also used my Silhouette to cut out four Easter egg shapes and a basic set of water colours.

The base of the book was constructed from a piece of yellow cardstock measuring 6” x 12”, which the front cover measuring 4 1/4” wide and back cover measuring 4 3/4”. I scored lines for these measurements and then the section remaining in between every 1/4” to create a concertina effect. To project the spine of the mini book I covered a strip of acetate measuring 6” x 1” with the beautiful material and secured with strong ‘red’ tape to the front and back covers.

The base of the pages for the inside where created from folding three of patterned papers in half and securing the folded edge with double sided tape to the ‘mountain and valley’ concertina folds. One further page was create by backing one of the ‘Today’ note pad pages with patterned paper. To create further layers and interest I added smaller pages of acetate, secured with spines of their own and taped into the mini book spine. I really wanted to add something that captured Easter as a theme so cut four Easter egg shapes and backed with white cardstock. Each egg was painted with a wash of watercolour paint to co-ordinate with the other elements in the book. Once the book has it’s basic structure in place it is super fun adding all the little touches that came in the kit!

It isn’t easy taking photos of a mini book that shows all the elements, so I have created a short flip through video if you would like to see how cute this finished up.

Here’s a little video for you here.
Thank you for joining me today, I loved making this mini book and feel like Spring really is now just around the corner,
